Getting started
How it works
A clear path from first contact to a plan that's actually being used — here's what to expect at each step.
The process
From first contact to an active plan
Step 1
Get in touch
A family member, participant or support coordinator makes contact, or sends a referral. A quick conversation helps work out whether behaviour support is the right fit.
Step 2
Service agreement
Specialist behaviour support has to be delivered through a registered NDIS provider, so the service agreement is with Tranquil Trails Counselling and Therapy. I'm the practitioner who works with you, day to day.
Step 3
Getting to know you & assessment
Time spent getting to know the participant, their environment and their support team, alongside a Functional Behaviour Assessment to understand what's happening and why.
Step 4
Your behaviour support plan
Where safety or risk means strategies are needed straight away, an interim plan comes first. A comprehensive behaviour support plan follows once the assessment is complete.
Step 5
Putting it into practice
Coaching for families and support workers to help the plan work in everyday life, with regular review and adjustments as things change.
Funding & plan management
Paying for behaviour support
Behaviour support is usually funded through the Capacity Building part of an NDIS plan — most often Improved Relationships, and sometimes Improved Daily Living, depending on what's included.
Because specialist behaviour support is delivered through Tranquil Trails Counselling and Therapy's NDIS registration, agency-managed, plan-managed and self-managed participants can all be supported.
Not sure what your plan covers? Check with your plan manager or support coordinator, or get in touch and I can help you work it out.
